Plot Summary of “Sexy Beast”:

Spain. Gal has retired from the gangster life, and is sunning himself placidly beside the pool at his villa when a boulder comes crashing by, barely missing him. Soon, he and his pal Aitch, together with their wives Deedee and Jackie, are being threatened by a human boulder, Don Logan. Logan wants Gal for a high-stakes vault break-in in London (masterminded by the cool and suave Teddy Bass), and he will not take no for an answer. Nevertheless, that’s exactly the answer Gal keeps giving him, even as Don gets more and more threatening. Meanwhile, Gal is plagued by dreams of a menacing, hairy beast. Just how far will Don (and Gal) go in this battle of wills? And what of Enrique, the pool boy?

Plot Summary of “The Motorcycle Diaries [Diarios de motocicleta]”:

The Motorcycle Diaries is an adaptation of a journal written by Ernesto “Che” Guevara de la Serna when he was 23 years old. He and his friend, Alberto Granado are typical college students who, seeking fun and adventure before graduation, decide to travel across Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Venezuela in order to do their medical residency at a leper colony. Beginning as a buddy/road movie in which Ernesto and Alberto are looking for chicks, fun and adventure before they must grow up and have a more serious life. As is said in the film itself, it’s about “two lives running parallel for a while.” The two best friends start off with the same goals and aspirations, but by the time the film is over, it’s clear what each man’s destiny has become.

Plot Summary of “East is East”:

Zahir Khan was born in Pakistan and had got married for the first time there. Seeking better prospects, he immigrated to Britain, fell in love with Ella, a Caucasian, married her, and eventually became the father of six sons and one daughter. He wanted all of children to follow the Islamic tradition, and would parcel them in the “masjid van” every Friday for prayers and religious incantations. Arguements with Ella are one-sided, and end when he threatens to bring “Mrs. Khan” from Pakistan. His eldest son, Nadir, came to know that his dad was going to arrange his marriage, and ran away from home. Zahir, who now calls himself George, disowned him - all the more when he found out that Nadir is gay and is living with a male. While the children have all to settled down in the community, and have their respective romantic flings, they do not know that their father has plans to marry off two of his sons to two Pakistani sisters. Ella does her best in bringing up the children, and is not a party to the selection of two prospective Pakistani brides for two of her sons. Nevertheless, the family prepare themselves, and her sons are introduced to these women. After recovering from the initial shock of seeing the women face to face, the family settles down, leaving Khan to negotiate the details. Noticing that the apartment was very small, the brides’ mother proposed that both boys should settle in their house after marriage. Watch how chaos takes over and how the overbearing Khan attempts to bring his family in line - or at least tries to, all this in the midst of Enoch Powell’s announcement that his political party will expel all immigrants and send them back to their respective motherlands.

Plot Summary of “Touching the Void”:

In the mid-80’s two young climbers attempted to reach the summit of Siula Grande in Peru; a feat that had previously been attempted but never achieved. With an extra man looking after base camp, Simon and Joe set off to scale the mount in one long push over several days. The peak is reached, however on the descent Joe falls and breaks his leg. Despite what it means, the two continue with Simon letting Joe out on a rope for 300 meters, then descending to join him and so on. However when Joe goes out over an overhang with no way of climbing back up, Simon makes the decision to cut the rope. Joe falls into a crevice and Simon, assuming him dead, continues back down. Joe however survives the fall and was lucky to hit a ledge in the crevice. This is the story of how he got back down.

Plot Summary of “In The Shadow Of The Moon”:

Between 1968 and 1972, nine American spacecraft voyaged to the Moon, and 12 men walked upon its surface. They remain the only human beings to have stood on another world. In the Shadow of the Moon brings together for the first, and very possibly the last, time surviving crew members from every single Apollo mission which flew to the Moon, and allows them to tell their story in their own words.

Young Andrey Teleshev (Aleksei Chadov) inherits a cryptic map from his great-grandmother Ekaterina that seems to be the key to finding a hidden treasure, given to her in the early 19th century by her lover, Governor-General Miloradovich. When he is unable to decipher it, he enlists the aid of Mikhail Milodravich (Aleksandr Domogarov), the descendant of the Governor-General. Although initially reluctant, Mikhail joins Andrey, and the two follow the map’s clues to Montenegro. Pursued by the larcenous Father Sergiy (Viktor Bychkov), an Orthodox priest who accidentally learned of their secret, and assisted by the beautiful Slavka (Evgeniya Khirivskaya), a mysterious young Montenegrin woman who agrees to join them, Andrey’s and Mikhail’s adventure will include car chases on winding mountain roads, burglaries, gun fights, stolen backpacks, a desolate abandoned fortress, falling rocks, fist fights, repelling down treacherous mountain crags, a flooded cave, and a boat chase through Montenegro Harbor. Love will bloom, and the treasures that Andrey and Mikhail will each find in the end will not be what they expected.

Based on a true story of teen criminals in the Soviet Union during World War 2. As alternative to prison they are trained in the mountains of Armenia for a mission in Nazi Germany to blow up an important installation. All but one boy dies. Most die during the rigorous training & some die in Germany. It is still unsure what is exactly true or not according to what faction one speaks with, but surely the fact that at the awards ceremony it was a heated moment amongst believers and non believers that the event ever took place.
